Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into an incident in which a 38-year-old cyclist sustained serious injuries after colliding with a Kingston police cruiser.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reported that police responded to a disturbance call around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday near Barrie and Johnston Streets. Upon arrival, officers encountered two men, one of whom fled on a bicycle.

The officer pursued the cyclist, and the collision occurred in a cleared area near 82 Division Street, where the cruiser and the bicycle came into contact. The cyclist was taken to the hospital with significant injuries.

The SIU has assigned a team of investigators, including a forensic expert and a collision reconstructionist, to probe the incident. They are calling for any witnesses or individuals with video or photos to come forward.
