Ontario Provincial Police report that a snowmobiler safely reached shore after breaking through the ice on the Rideau River near Kemptville on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near County Road 43.
Police confirmed the driver was not injured and did not require medical treatment. The snowmobile remains in the river, and its owner will be responsible for removing it once conditions allow.
This marks the second similar incident on the Rideau River within a week. In a previous crash near Burritts Rapids, a snowmobiler fell through the ice and was treated for hypothermia.
OPP are urging the public to use extreme caution around ice-covered waterways, especially following recent warmer weather, and to avoid traveling on ice when conditions are uncertain.
