A snowplow driver has been charged after hitting a highway overpass in Oro-Medonte on Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Penetanguishene Road and Partridge Road, where police say the truck struck the Highway 11 overpass while travelling with its dump bed raised, becoming stuck beneath the bridge.

Both lanes of Penetanguishene Road were shut down for several hours while crews freed the vehicle and engineers assessed the structure. The roadway has since reopened.

A 64-year-old Barrie man has been charged with careless driving in connection with the incident.
