Highway 17 has reopened following a crash that shut down an eight-kilometre stretch in Algoma Mills, between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie, for several hours Wednesday morning. The collision, involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle, occurred between Pronton Road and the Highway 538 intersection.
According to OPP Const. Phil Young, the driver of the passenger vehicle sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. The highway was closed in both directions starting around 7:30 a.m. and reopened by 11:30 a.m. Authorities have not yet indicated whether any charges will be laid.
