A student is in critical condition following a fire at a high school in North Huron Township Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews responded shortly after 8 a.m. to reports of a person on fire at F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham. The school was quickly evacuated, and the fire was brought under control. The injured student was airlifted by Ornge to a trauma centre, where they remain in stable but life-threatening condition.
Police say the incident is under investigation, and the school will remain closed for the rest of the week. As of Tuesday afternoon, the scene had been cleared and nearby roads reopened.
The local school board confirmed that a staff member was also treated for minor injuries, and some students witnessed the incident. All students were safely moved to a nearby elementary school before being dismissed.
