A family in Greater Sudbury narrowly escaped with their lives but tragically lost their home and two pets in a devastating fire early Friday morning. The blaze broke out around 2:30 a.m. on Stacy Crescent in Garson, prompting a response from 28 firefighters across five stations. By the time crews arrived, flames had already broken through the roof.
Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell credited the family’s working smoke alarms with giving them enough time to safely flee. He emphasized that the alarms were crucial in saving their lives.
The house was deemed a total loss, with damage estimated at $750,000. In an online fundraiser, the homeowners’ daughter, Alyssa Mirabella, shared that her parents only managed to escape with the clothes they were wearing. “Nothing was salvageable,” she said, noting their devastation over losing not only their home but also their two cats, Bijou and Sofia.
While the official cause of the fire is still under investigation, fire officials believe it likely started in the attached garage. At this time, there is no suspicion of foul play.
