Emergency crews responded to a serious two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Ottawa’s rural west end Tuesday evening, where a teenage girl was left trapped inside her vehicle.
The crash occurred around 7:50 p.m. at Eagleson and Fallowfield roads and involved a head-on collision that sent one vehicle into a ditch. Ottawa police requested assistance from firefighters after discovering the female driver, believed to be in her late teens, was pinned inside her car with her legs trapped in the wheel well. She was the only occupant of the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.
Fire crews worked to stabilize the vehicle using rescue jacks to prevent it from shifting further into the ditch. While some firefighters focused on extrication, others provided medical care, including warming measures to treat the injured teen.
To free her, crews removed multiple parts of the vehicle, including a door, the hood and a structural post, before lifting the dashboard to allow for her safe removal.
