On Saturday afternoon, emergency crews in Timmins, Ont., rescued three individuals and a dog after their boat capsized in Meadow Lake. The Timmins Fire Department responded to the scene at 12:33 p.m. on September 6, after receiving reports of an overturned vessel approximately eight kilometers south of Pine Street.
Due to the challenging location of the boat, rescuers launched the department’s rescue boat from Wealthy Lakes, traveling for about six minutes to reach the distressed group. The boaters and their dog were found clinging to their boat and safely pulled from the water.
The group was assessed by Cochrane District Paramedic Services, with early signs of hypothermia noted, but no serious injuries were reported. All were later released.
The Timmins Fire Department took the opportunity to remind residents about essential water safety, urging the use of properly fitted personal flotation devices and the carrying of approved emergency kits.
