Three people have died following a crash involving two commercial vehicles on Highway 17 near Thunder Bay.
Emergency crews, including the Ontario Provincial Police, responded around 3:30 a.m. on April 16 to the collision near Raith. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and their identities have not yet been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
Police also reported that one of the trucks spilled its load, though officials say it does not pose a risk to the public. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks attended to manage the spill.
The crash led to an extended closure of Highway 17 between Ignace and the Highway 11 junction in Shabaqua. The highway reopened at approximately 7:35 a.m. Friday, and the investigation remains ongoing.
