Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon when an SUV speeding south on 5th Concession Road North failed to stop at Alma Street and collided with an Essex-Windsor EMS ambulance in Amherstburg. Windsor police say both vehicles ended up in a roadside ditch, with the SUV overturned and heavily damaged.
The ambulance was not carrying patients, but two paramedics suffered minor injuries and a third was hurt later while removing equipment. The SUV’s 50-year-old driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is now charged with careless driving.
CUPE 2974 noted that the paramedics provided immediate care to the injured driver following the crash. Windsor police continue to investigate.
