A 27-year-old Thunder Bay woman is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police responded around 1 a.m. Friday to reports of a possible impaired driver whose truck had gone into a ditch on Highway 17 near Frammpet Drive in Blind River. Officers found a heavily damaged black pickup facing the wrong direction, with beer cans scattered on and beside the roadway.

Algoma paramedics assessed the driver and transported her to hospital, where police say she became uncooperative with both officers and medical staff. She was subsequently arrested, and the vehicle was impounded.

The woman has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan. 8.
