Durham police have charged a 39-year-old Toronto woman after she fled from a traffic stop in Oshawa and later crashed into a large boulder. The incident began just after midnight on November 21, when officers attempted to pull over a vehicle near King Street West and Thornton Road South. The driver sped away, prompting a short pursuit that police quickly ended due to her high rate of speed.
Officers later found the vehicle abandoned near Park Road and Hillside Avenue, damaged from hitting a large boulder. The woman was located nearby, arrested, and taken to hospital with minor crash-related injuries. Police say she was already wanted on additional matters.
Kathleen Mary Laffan is now facing multiple charges, including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, failing to display proper plates, driving without a licence, leaving the scene of a crash, failing to provide required information, and obstructing an officer. She has been released on an undertaking.
Investigators are asking anyone with relevant camera footage from the area to contact police.
