Police have issued 21 charges following an incident in Cambridge where multiple tow truck drivers arrived uninvited at the scene of a two-vehicle crash and two of them got into a physical fight. The collision occurred just after 2 p.m. on Franklin Boulevard near Mill Creek Road.
When officers arrived, they found the northbound lanes blocked by several tow trucks, even though neither of the drivers involved in the crash had requested assistance. Seven trucks from four different towing companies had appeared at the scene.
The drivers were charged under the Highway Traffic Act and the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act. One tow truck was also removed from service for being unsafe. Authorities emphasized that tow operators are only allowed to respond to collisions when requested by those involved or by police.
