A truck driver has been charged under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act after their over-height vehicle struck an overpass on Highway 401 near Cardinal.

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at the Shanley Road/County Road 22 overpass, where the truck’s roof was partially torn off. The driver is facing a charge for operating an over-height vehicle.

The OPP reminded commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers and operators to always verify load dimensions. They emphasized that both drivers and operators can be held accountable for related violations—drivers for how the vehicle is operated, and operators for authorizing its use, including ensuring licensing and inspections are in order.
