A hit-and-run involving a transport truck caused a power outage and traffic disruptions in Kitchener’s Sportsworld Drive area on Thursday afternoon.
The incident was reported around 1 p.m. after a truck struck overhead wires on Sportsworld Drive, breaking a utility pole and sparking a fire. The collision led to widespread outages affecting more than 1,100 customers, along with malfunctioning traffic signals at several busy intersections.
Waterloo Regional Police say the truck driver fled the scene and is being sought. No injuries were reported.
Utility crews worked through the afternoon to replace damaged infrastructure and restore service. Power was largely restored by early evening.
