Two people have been arrested after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole and caught fire early Friday morning in Rexdale, disrupting traffic along a section of Albion Road during the morning rush.

Police responded to the area of Albion Road and Westmore Drive, near Highway 27, at about 5 a.m. following reports that a vehicle had crashed into a pole and ignited. By the time emergency crews arrived, those inside the vehicle had already left the scene.

Officers later located and arrested two individuals. One of them, who police say was involved in the crash, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Authorities have not confirmed how many occupants were originally in the vehicle or whether anyone else remains unaccounted for.

Investigators have not yet released information about possible charges or the circumstances that led to the collision.

Albion Road has been closed between Silverstone Drive and Westmore Drive as crews work to clear the scene and repair damage. Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and expect delays while the closure remains in place.
