Two people have died and another person was seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Hanmer.
The collision occurred on Municipal Road 80 shortly before 10 a.m., when an eastbound blue sedan struck a black SUV that was turning left from the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre, according to Greater Sudbury police.
The 21-year-old driver of the sedan died at the scene. His 20-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries but later succumbed to his injuries.
The 43-year-old woman driving the SUV was also taken to hospital and suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Police remain on scene as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash continues.
Update – The two men who died were later identified as brothers Ordyn and Drake York.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by family friend Angie Servant of Capreol has been established to help the brothers’ parents, Barb and Tim York, with funeral and memorial expenses. The campaign has a $30,000 target and had surpassed $12,000 by Monday morning. Superior Exteriors was among the donors, contributing $1,000.
A second fundraising initiative has also been launched by Inksane Asylum, a tattoo shop originally based in Capreol and now operating in Massey. The business says all proceeds from its fundraiser will go directly to the York family and is also offering to help facilitate direct donations.
