Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver after a weekend collision on Highway 416 that occurred when a vehicle entered oncoming traffic.

Police said emergency crews responded to the highway around 6:30 p.m. Sunday after a southbound vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with another vehicle.

Both drivers were treated for minor injuries, while the SUV involved sustained heavy front-end damage.

Investigators determined the driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel before the crash. The individual has been charged with careless driving, an offence that carries a $490 fine and six demerit points upon conviction.
