A fatal house fire in North York early Tuesday morning has claimed the lives of two elderly residents.
Fire crews were called to a home near Madonna Gardens and Anthia Drive at about 4 a.m., where they found the occupants—a man and a woman—inside the residence. Firefighters attempted life-saving measures before both were transported to hospital, but they were later pronounced dead.
Officials say preliminary findings suggest the fire began near a bedroom, and the victims were discovered together. The home sustained heavy smoke damage, though the fire has since been put out.
Authorities, including Toronto Fire, police, and the provincial fire marshal’s office, are working together to determine the cause. Investigators will also assess whether the property met Ontario fire safety regulations. A structural engineer has been brought in to evaluate the building’s condition to ensure it is safe for further examination.
