An off-duty York Regional Police officer was seriously hurt in a three-vehicle crash that disrupted traffic on Highway 400 in Bradford early Tuesday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police say the collision happened around 3:45 a.m. near Simcoe County Road 88 and involved a transport truck and two SUVs. The off-duty officer was taken to a trauma centre, while another person was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
OPP said the crash began when the transport truck lost power and stopped on the right shoulder, partially blocking an active lane. A SUV then struck the rear of the truck, causing it to go out of control before being hit by the second SUV with the off-duty police officer.
The highway’s northbound lanes were closed for several hours as crews cleared the highway of debris and investigators gathered evidence. Traffic resumed shortly after 1 p.m.
OPP is asking drivers with dash-cam footage from the area at the time to come forward to assist in the investigation.
