A multi-vehicle crash late Wednesday night shut down a large section of Highway 400 in Barrie, according to provincial police.

The collision occurred around 11 p.m. near Mapleview Drive, involving roughly six vehicles. Police closed the southbound lanes from Mapleview Drive to Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil for several hours, though northbound traffic was unaffected.

Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, and the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. Motorists were advised to avoid the area while crews cleared the scene. The highway reopened shortly after 1 a.m.
