Two 18-year-olds were hospitalized after a single-vehicle rollover in Pickering early Friday morning, with the passenger suffering life-threatening injuries.
Durham police responded shortly before 3 a.m. near Kingston Road and Altona Road, where a Nissan sedan travelling south on Altona Road lost control, left the roadway and overturned.
Emergency crews freed both occupants from the vehicle before they were taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre. The passenger, an 18-year-old, suffered life-threatening injuries, while the 18-year-old driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said alcohol may have contributed to the crash. Members of the Durham Regional Police Service Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene, and nearby roads were closed for several hours.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
