Police in Cambridge have laid multiple charges following a drug trafficking investigation that led to the seizure of narcotics, cash and a homemade conducted energy weapon.
On Feb. 4, officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service observed two men meeting in a Preston-area parking lot in what was believed to be a drug deal. One of the suspects arrived in a Cadillac.
As officers moved in to make arrests, the driver allegedly reversed the vehicle, striking both a police cruiser and an officer, who sustained minor injuries. Both men were taken into custody.
Police seized the Cadillac, a knife, cash and suspected cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine at the scene. Subsequent searches of residences in Kitchener and Cambridge uncovered approximately one kilogram of cocaine, 440 grams of methamphetamine, two grams of fentanyl, more than $11,000 in cash and a homemade conducted energy weapon commonly known as a Taser.
A 43-year-old Cambridge resident faces charges including possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A 59-year-old man from Kitchener is charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, two additional counts of possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, fleeing police, assaulting an officer with a weapon and possession of a weapon while prohibited.
