Ottawa firefighters responded to two separate overnight fires on Thursday, with one person suffering serious burn injuries and several residents displaced.

The first fire broke out in a townhouse on Meadowbrook Road shortly after midnight. Crews quickly contained the bedroom fire and completed two searches of the home, confirming no one remained inside. Paramedics transported one man to hospital in serious condition with burns, and the resident has been displaced despite the fire being limited to a single room.

A second fire was reported a few hours later in a mixed residential and commercial building near Merivale Road and Kirkwood Avenue. Firefighters located the blaze on the building’s second floor and brought it under control shortly after 4:20 a.m. All occupants evacuated safely, no injuries were reported, and victim services was called in to assist those affected.
