Two people were taken to hospital after a passenger vehicle collided with the back of a Ministry of Transportation crash truck on Highway 401 near Woodstock Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. near Towerline Road. Police said the MTO truck was stopped in the fast lane with a large warning sign and arrow directing approaching motorists to move over.

According to OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk, witnesses reported that the passenger vehicle struck the rear of the truck at highway speed.

The passenger vehicle driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The MTO truck driver was also transported for precautionary assessment.

Two eastbound lanes were closed during the investigation, causing delays during the afternoon commute. The lanes reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m. The OPP investigation remains ongoing.
