A 23-year-old woman from London is facing numerous charges after an early Sunday crash in the city’s south end that involved multiple vehicles and escalated into alleged assaults on emergency personnel and hospital staff.
Police responded shortly after 12:20 a.m. to several emergency calls reporting a serious collision along Wellington Road between Commissioners Road East and Southdale Road East. Investigators say a speeding black Chevrolet Tahoe struck two vehicles, a telephone pole, and a business sign near the Wellington and Southdale intersection before coming to a stop.
A female passenger in the SUV sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, while the driver suffered minor injuries. Both were extricated with help from London Fire Department. Others involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries.
Authorities allege the driver became aggressive during and after transport to hospital, assaulting paramedics and police officers, damaging a police radio, and later assaulting a nurse. She now faces multiple charges, including dangerous and impaired driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene, breaching a release order, mischief, and several counts of assault.
She remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday as the investigation continues.
