An early morning townhouse fire in east Ottawa sent two people to hospital and displaced a family of four.

Emergency crews responded to a two-storey home on Belisle Street at approximately 4:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor and confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated the building before conducting a search through heavy smoke.

Paramedics transported a youth under the age of 18 to hospital in serious but stable condition. A woman who was injured while escaping the home was also taken to hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within about 20 minutes and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring units. Two adults and two children have been displaced, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
