Two people were rescued from a burning home in Kitchener on Monday morning after flames were spotted coming from the side of the house at 499 Strasburg Road.

Fire crews were able to respond quickly to the fire due to its close proximity with Kitchener Fire Station #1. Firefighters promptly extinguished the flames and rescued two individuals trapped in the basement. No injuries were reported among the residents or firefighters.

The fire has displaced the five people living in the home. The landlord expressed relief that everyone escaped safely but noted it could take up to six months before the property is habitable again. The insurance company will conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire, though officials have not yet released details about the cause or a damage estimate.
