Two people were seriously injured after a vehicle crashed off the road and burst into flames in Uxbridge early Friday morning.
Durham police say officers responded around 4 a.m. to a single-vehicle collision near Allbright Road and Uxbridge Concession Road 6. Investigators allege a 26-year-old man driving a Porsche SUV eastbound lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into a wooded area.
Police said the driver and his 24-year-old female passenger managed to escape the SUV before it became engulfed in fire.
Both occupants were taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver was later released, while the passenger was transferred to a trauma centre in Toronto for further treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information or video footage from the area to contact Durham police.
