Two Hanover police officers were injured after being attacked by up to three Cane Corso dogs during an arrest attempt on the morning of May 6. Officers were responding to a dispute between a 35-year-old tenant and an apartment manager when they discovered the tenant was wanted by multiple police agencies.
After arresting him in the building lobby, the suspect asked to return to his apartment to secure his dogs. At the door, he resisted arrest, leading to a struggle. Upon entering the unit, the officers were “viciously attacked” by the dogs. Both officers managed to escape and were treated at Hanover hospital for bite injuries. One officer sustained serious lacerations that may require extended recovery.
The suspect and his girlfriend fled with the dogs but only the girlfriend was later arrested. The male suspect remains at large. The dogs were seized by animal control and placed in quarantine.
