Toronto firefighters rescued four dogs from a house fire in Scarborough Friday afternoon that sent two residents to hospital for observation.
The two-alarm blaze broke out around 4:10 p.m. at a detached home on Madras Crescent, near Ellesmere and Scarborough Golf Club Road. When crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed. The fire, described as “stubborn,” had not been fully extinguished by 7:30 p.m., and firefighters will remain on scene for 24 hours to monitor hot spots.
Four people live in the home, and two were inside at the time. Three dogs are still missing and believed to be roaming the neighbourhood. The Toronto Humane Society has been notified, though the residents are currently caring for the rescued pets.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
