On Thursday afternoon, a kitchen fire forced Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) to rescue two residents from a second-floor apartment in a three-storey building on Shillington Avenue, near the Central Experimental Farm. The call came in at approximately 4:36 p.m., with heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the unit.

Firefighters quickly conducted a search, rescuing two adults, who were assessed by paramedics on-site but chose not to go to the hospital. By 4:56 p.m., the blaze was brought under control.

OFS crews then used ventilation fans to clear the building of smoke before allowing residents to return. Victim services were also dispatched to support those affected. Fortunately, the fire was confined to the kitchen area, and a fire truck stayed on the scene for ongoing flare-up monitoring.
