Two teenage girls have been charged after police recovered a stolen vehicle and say it was reversed into a cruiser during an attempted getaway in Waterloo.

Regional police responded to a tip on July 11 about a stolen vehicle parked on Albert Street. Officers located the vehicle, but as they approached, the driver allegedly tried to escape by backing into a marked police cruiser.

No injuries were reported, and both occupants were taken into custody at the scene.

A 16-year-old girl from Brantford has been charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, obstructing a peace officer and cannabis-related offences. A 17-year-old girl from Kitchener faces charges of motor vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
