A 52-year-old man has died after a two-vehicle collision in Hamilton on Tuesday evening, according to the Hamilton Police Service.
Officers said the crash occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Wilson Street near the eastbound exit ramp from Highway 403. Investigators determined that a 2025 Jeep Compass, driven by a 29-year-old woman, was travelling west on Wilson Street when it collided with a 2022 Acura MDX. The Acura, operated by the 52-year-old man, had just exited the highway and was attempting to make a left turn onto Wilson Street. A 43-year-old woman was in the front passenger seat of the Acura.
All three occupants were taken to hospital. The 52-year-old driver of the Acura was pronounced dead. The female passenger suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while the Jeep driver was treated and remains in stable condition.
Police have not released the name of the deceased out of consideration for the family. Investigators say there is currently no evidence to suggest that speed, weather conditions, or impairment contributed to the crash.
Witnesses remained at the scene and have provided statements, but authorities are asking anyone with additional information or dashcam footage to contact investigators. Wilson Street was shut down for several hours during the investigation and reopened around 4:15 a.m.
Update – The 29-year-old woman from Hagarsville, now 30, was arrested on May 28 and faces several charges, including dangerous operation causing death, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, stunt driving, speeding, and failing to wear a seatbelt. Police allege the Jeep was travelling at least 130 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone at the time of the collision.
