Two women from the Greater Toronto Area were killed in a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a parked transport truck on Highway 401 near Gananoque early Monday.
Ontario Provincial Police said the crash occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes after a passenger vehicle struck a transport truck that had been stopped on the right shoulder with safety cones in place.
The victims, aged 47 and 73, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to hospital for assessment with no serious injuries, while the transport truck driver was unharmed.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
