Two women were taken to hospital after being hit by a school bus in Bolton on Thursday morning.

The collision happened shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of King Street East and John Street, prompting Ontario Provincial Police in Caledon to close the surrounding section of road for several hours while they investigated.

Emergency crews said one of the pedestrians was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital, while the other was sent to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

Authorities confirmed there were 12 students on the bus at the time of the incident, and none were injured.

King Street East between John and James streets remained closed during the investigation before reopening around 1:15 p.m.
