A 25-year-old man from Vaughan, Harnoor Chauhan, has been sentenced to five years in prison and handed a 15-year driving ban for a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in 2024. The incident involved a 16-year-old teenager riding a mini-bike, who was struck by Chauhan’s Mercedes-Benz around 10:45 p.m. on May 21, near Forest Drive and Dunstan Crescent.
Chauhan fled the scene after the collision, and the teen was later pronounced dead. Shortly after the crash, Chauhan reported his vehicle had been carjacked at a nearby location. However, after a thorough investigation, police determined the carjacking claim was false, and Chauhan was identified as the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run.
In September, Chauhan pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop after an accident causing death, and public mischief. York Regional Police emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility, urging all motorists to uphold their legal and ethical obligation to remain at the scene of any accident.
