A late-night fire in Midhurst caused an estimated $300,000 in damage after flames spread from a vehicle to a residential garage. Springwater Fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday following reports of a vehicle on fire, which quickly escalated when callers reported the garage had also caught fire. Firefighters arrived to find flames breaking through the garage roof.

Everyone inside the home was able to get out safely, and no injuries were reported to occupants or emergency crews. Fire officials determined the blaze began in the vehicle due to an electrical problem before spreading to the garage.

Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French noted that heavy snowfall had buried a nearby fire hydrant, though residents helped by digging it out before crews arrived. Springwater Fire is reminding homeowners to keep hydrants on or near their property clear of snow to ensure quick access during emergencies.
