A vehicle fire on Highway 417 in Ottawa caused traffic delays Saturday evening after it overheated and caught fire. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes between Vanier Parkway and Riverside Drive.
Ottawa firefighters and Ontario Provincial Police responded quickly, reducing traffic to a single lane while crews extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported. The highway was fully reopened by 7:15 p.m.
The OPP noted a surge in vehicle breakdowns and overheating incidents over the weekend due to extreme heat, with temperatures reaching the mid-30s. Authorities are reminding drivers to check fluid levels before driving in hot weather and to carry emergency supplies like extra water.
