A 35-year-old man wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested early Tuesday morning after fleeing from officers in Barrie’s northeast end, leading to a collision with a police cruiser and a lengthy road closure.
Barrie police initiated their search around 1 a.m., locating the suspect near St. Vincent Street and Cundles Road East around 5:30 a.m. Upon spotting the officers, the man fled on foot from a nearby business. He continued running onto the St. Vincent Street overpass, where he collided with a responding police vehicle.
The man was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The incident led to a closure of St. Vincent Street from Sperling Drive to Bell Farm Road, which remained blocked for several hours before reopening at 12:30 p.m. The investigation is ongoing, but police confirmed the situation posed no threat to public safety.
While the incident disrupted traffic, Barrie police thanked the public for their patience during the road closure.
