A 51-year-old Waterloo man is facing impaired-driving charges after a watercraft collision on Conestogo Lake in Mapleton Township that left a passenger with serious injuries.
Emergency crews were called to the lake around 5 p.m. Saturday for a reported single-watercraft crash. Police say the operator left the scene before officers arrived but was located nearby following a search.
The man was arrested after officers allegedly observed signs of impairment. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A passenger was also transported to hospital before being airlifted to a trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Waterloo man is charged with operation while impaired, operation causing bodily harm and additional offences. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on Oct. 6.
