A residential fire in Waterloo on Sunday afternoon left one person hospitalized. Emergency crews responded to the blaze around 2:45 p.m. near Star Flower Avenue and Columbia Forest Boulevard.

A 65-year-old man was trapped on the second floor but was rescued and taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. A 35-year-old woman was also inside the home but managed to evacuate safely.

Waterloo Regional Police confirmed road closures in the area, advising drivers to avoid the scene and seek alternate routes.

Fire officials noted that the home had working smoke alarms, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
