Essex County OPP have charged a Windsor man after a wrong-way crash on Highway 3 that involved a police cruiser. The collision happened around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 1 near County Road 8 in Lakeshore, when an officer in a marked cruiser was struck by a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction.
The officer was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police arrested a 42-year-old man and laid several Criminal Code charges, including impaired driving, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene.
Police also imposed a 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is set to appear in Windsor court on Jan. 20, 2026.
