A 24-year-old woman from Sandy Lake First Nation has been charged in connection with a fatal ATV crash that occurred in the community last November.
The single-vehicle collision happened early on Nov. 21 along Airport Road. Nishnawbe Aski Police reported that officers found two injured individuals at the scene: a male passenger, who later died at the local clinic, and the female driver. Another female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said their investigation revealed the driver had been impaired by alcohol and traveling at high speed prior to the crash.
The woman was arrested this week and charged on Jan. 14 with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. She was released with conditions after a bail hearing on Jan. 15 and will appear in court at a later date. The investigation is ongoing.
