A 25-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Alexandria.

Provincial police say the incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Kenyon Street and Main Street, where the woman was walking when she was struck.

She was first taken to a local hospital before being airlifted by ORNGE to a regional trauma centre due to the severity of her injuries.

Officers from the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry detachment are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
