A 26-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle struck two cars and a business in Sault Ste. Marie late Wednesday morning.
Police say the incident began around 11 a.m. when a vehicle was taken from a driveway on Pim Street. Within minutes, officers received a 911 call reporting a crash on Bruce Street involving a vehicle matching the stolen one. According to police, the driver hit two vehicles and a building before attempting to flee.
Witnesses intervened, stopping the woman and holding her until officers arrived. No injuries were reported.
The driver has been charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and several Highway Traffic Act offences, including driving without a licence and failing to remain at the scene. She was released on an undertaking and is due in court on Feb. 2.
The building hit was The Breakfast Pig on Bruce Street. The restaurant later shared that two customers had entered moments before the crash. While thankful that no one was hurt, the post noted the building sustained considerable damage, though it remains safe for patrons.
