A 40-year-old woman remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Ouellette Avenue in Windsor early Sunday morning.

Police say the collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Ouellette Avenue. Preliminary findings indicate the woman was crossing the road mid-block when she was hit by an approaching vehicle.

Following the crash, the driver exited his vehicle and was allegedly assaulted by a man who was accompanying the pedestrian. The woman was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident prompted the closure of Ouellette Avenue between Giles Boulevard and Pine Street for several hours as investigators worked at the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
