An 83-year-old woman has died following a snowmobile collision in eastern Ontario.

Emergency crews were called around 1 p.m. Saturday to a crash on a trail maintained by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs in Addington Highlands Township.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the snowmobile left the trail and struck a tree. The victim, identified as an Iroquois woman who was operating the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of the Lennox and Addington County OPP, assisted by a technical collision investigation officer, are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
