A 78-year-old woman is dead after being hit and pinned beneath a bus at Toronto’s Royal York Station on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. as the woman attempted to board a bus that was departing from the station. She fell and was struck by the bus. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Royal York Station was temporarily closed, with trains bypassing the stop until service resumed shortly after 4:30 p.m.
In response, TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali expressed deep sorrow over the incident and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to safety and cooperation with the police investigation.
The Traffic Services Unit is leading the investigation, and authorities are requesting anyone with security or dash camera footage of the area or incident to come forward. Tips can be provided to police at 416-808-1900 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
