A Wallaceburg woman is facing charges following a fatal pedestrian collision on Walpole Island First Nation earlier this year.

Police say the incident happened on Jan. 20, 2026, on Tecumseh Road, where officers from the Walpole Island Police Service, along with Lambton OPP, firefighters and paramedics, responded after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

Following the investigation, 34-year-old Chloe Smith was charged on May 12 with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death under the Criminal Code.

The accused has since been released and is expected to appear in Walpole Island First Nation court on June 11, 2026.
